Lunch Programme

Status: Needs Updating

Lunch Programme

  • The core idea here is to encourage the team to spend time together during lunchtime.

  • We’re doing this by subsidising each meal to bring the cost down. In the hopes that we then go for lunch together more often.

  • And as a small benefit to the team.

  • This is not some tax optimisation, or a way to pay out part of your salary in a tax free way. Some companies do this, we don’t. We aim to pay fair market salaries, and this is an independent treat on-top, in the form of a “togetherness initiative”.

Implementation in Austria
  • We do this using SODEXO vouchers, each in the value of 4,40 EUR.

  • The rule is: “when you go for lunch, grab a voucher”. Limited to 1 voucher per day per person.

    • This implies that you can’t take a voucher for the days that you aren’t here.

    • Don’t take vouchers for the previous weeks/months/…, because this is considered a payment in arrears and is therefore a taxable benefit in kind.

  • When taking a voucher, make a stroke on the provided list next to your name for the correct date. Since this is a tax free benefit for employees, there are some requirements that we need to fulfil, such as only consuming them at place of work, and respecting daily and monthly limits. For this, we need to be able to associate voucher consumption with employees and dates. Don’t worry, the sheet is self explanatory, and you’ll find it next to the voucher stash.

  • It’s a trust system, you don’t have to ask anyone to grab a voucher. Just remember to make a stroke near your name.

  • There is also no limit, you can make use of this on as many weekdays as you like.

Implementation in Croatia
  • Team members who regularly enjoy lunch with the team at the office get a flat monthly (tax free) grant in the amount of 416.66 HRK.

  • We might change this to be more similar to the Austrian “consumption based” system at some point which would be slightly more fair. At the moment, simply for reason of lack of local manpower to manage the consumption based version, we’re sticking to the flat monthly grant model in Croatia.
