Care Leave

What is Care Leave?

  • In short: if your close relative(s) fall ill or the person caring for a child is absent, you can take Care Leave

    • this includes your child / your spouse / your grandparents etc. who may need you

    • it is not the same as our “normal” Special Leave

    • it is also not the same as your Sick Leave

      • as in case you need more than 3 days in a row, you’d need a doctor’s receipt, which they will issue to you, for care of your child, and you can use this for the Care Leave.

How does it work?

  • you are able to take Care Leave any time it is needed

    • on weekly, daily or hourly basis

  • Care Leave is paid, and you get an allowance of 1 week* per year.

    • *If you work part-time it’s less. So, for example, if you work 20 hours/week, you are entitled to 20 hours of Care Leave per year; if you work 37.5 hours/week, your entitlement to Care Leave is 37.5 hours per year, etc.

    • In addition, there is a second week of care leave within a working year (again to the extent of your weekly working hours) if the child is not yet 12 years old, falls ill again and requires care and you are not entitled to continued payment of wages for other important reasons

  • If you need more allowance for any reason, you can ask your Team Lead who may approve Special Leave depending on the circumstances.
